the brooklyn bridge celebrated it’s one hundred twenty fifth birthday last week and ben + emma had plenty of steak and beer on hand to wash the fireworks down proper blokes. during the surveying process for the east riverbridge the design guru, john augustus roebling, suffered a massive foot injury. his foot was pinned between a ferry and a pylon and he consequentially passed several weeks later of tetanus. his son washington roebling was determined to complete the project, despite contracting caisson disease from working in compressed air chambers beneath the river. washington’s wife / OG construction manager extraordinaire, emily warren roebling learned to be an engineer overnight, grabbed the reigns and made it happen for NY. it is said that washington oversaw the whole process through a looking glass, perched high on the river’s edge. here’s a victory shot one hundred twenty five years later -

construction of the Manhattan tower was cut short after the discovery of caisson disease. To this day, it still sits on the riverbed, not in bedrock.
