bridge party

the brooklyn bridge celebrated it’s one hundred twenty fifth birthday last week and ben + emma had plenty of steak and beer on hand to wash the fireworks down proper blokes. during the surveying process for the east river bridge the design guru, john augustus roebling, suffered a massive foot injury. his foot was pinned between a ferry and a pylon and he consequentially passed several weeks later of tetanus. his son washington roebling was determined to complete the project, despite contracting caisson disease from working in compressed air chambers beneath the river. washington’s wife / OG construction manager extraordinaire, emily warren roebling learned to be an engineer overnight, grabbed the reigns and made it happen for NY. it is said that washington oversaw the whole process through a looking glass, perched high on the river’s edge. here’s a victory shot one hundred twenty five years later -

dpV.t III

Finally had some time this weekend to paint up the deck. Olive green stain and flat black enamel. architect camo = clean lines x schwarzenegger's face painted in predator (like you don't know what im talking about - see photo below). After the fact, i can also say it was inspired by the old Vision Street Wear Gator decks. Polly coat then grip, which ima try and match to the lines. coming to a paved street by you soon...

///UPDATE: visual rendition of dpV.t influence:

circa '89

Straight outta 80's skateboard culture excess, I dug these up for my custom ride. Call em what you want, ubolts, bridge bolts, harbour bolts; grindking claims they invented them in '89. These add much style to my flow. I guess they get in the way of huge ollie's, becuase no one makes these anymore.

As long as i got these, and neon pink griptape is still available, the 80's won't be forgotten.

representin straight out of new york city...

freshmode godfather, my partner in crime and metropolitan wave slayer DP made the mistake of sharing a quick clip of him killing it at the badlands. Although only 9 seconds, you get a feel for DP at this undisclosed rock location. I took the liberty of quick editing the clip to give it some additional soul. Make sure you let him know you saw the clip if you run into him at the fish fry manana.

//note: the video works, it just hasn't processed an image yet - hit play dunny

dpV.t II

Had a chance to stain up the deck this week. Olive green action came out just alright. Next up, passing it off to JB for a screen print, then poly then its ready to bomb my freshly paved broadway.

albert hoffman, the father of LSD, dies at 102

::above left: one of my paintings inspired by the mastermind on the above right: albert hoffman::

PARIS — Albert Hofmann, the mystical Swiss chemist who gave the world LSD, the most powerful psychotropic substance known, died Tuesday at his hilltop home near Basel, Switzerland. He was 102.

Dr. Hofmann first synthesized the compound lysergic acid diethylamide in 1938 but did not discover its psychopharmacological effects until five years later, when he accidentally ingested the substance that became known to the 1960s counterculture as acid.

He then took LSD hundreds of times, but regarded it as a powerful and potentially dangerous psychotropic drug that demanded respect. More important to him than the pleasures of the psychedelic experience was the drug’s value as a revelatory aid for contemplating and understanding what he saw as humanity’s oneness with nature...
