Noisy Neighbors

I snagged this photo in Biarritz. While trying to fall asleep, I couldn't help but notice that there was this exquisite color green beaming in through the window - the shutters were open just enough to let the light in. The building across the way is typically white, but in the evening it illuminates just like you see below.

The Hotel Palym is an interesting place. Consequentially, it's the place that I learned to speak sign language. Upon arriving, the woman that ran the joint remembered me as the smilin' guy from New York City that surfs. She returned the favor and smiled back and began to open the conversation in French. Her body language spoke in a reminiscent tone - It took her about ten seconds to remember what she loved about me most - this guy doesn't understand a word I'm saying.

As much as I wanted to have a normal conversation with her, it was impossible. That lady and I have a pretty special relationship - I know deep down inside she can't wait until I come back -

F#@&$'N REVS

Legend number one - REVS. Try riding the train, any line, without seeing his name every fifty feet on a piece of support steel. His list of accomplishments dwarf his rap sheet - and he still maintains his cloak and dagger after 2 decades.

UPDATE: these photos were taken by legendary skate/punk rock photographer Glen E. Friedman. Dude cut his teeth shooting the dog town scene of the 70's, continued with the 80's skate mainstream, early NYHC, punk rock and the early days of hip-hop. Check out his site for a lot more of his work...Jersey's been here for years!

V-DAY MTK

Annee sent some amazing photos of Montauk on Valentine's Day. These photos explain why so many dudes are in the dog house for nodding off at dinner. Viva la Surf Widow - mtk spot x -

Broad Channel, Queens

Between the badlands of Ozone Park (think John Gotti 1988) and the Rockways (Hey Bra!) is the neighborhood of Broad Channel. Its got the feel of a New England fishing village right here in the city. Drive through it next time your finished tearing it up at the beach.

Canard Confit

Alexandre / surfer / master shaper / architect / father / professor / blogger - is a busy dude. His company Barrel Surfboards has been going strong for 3 years now. Back in October, I had the opportunity to test drive a quad fish hand-shaped by Alex. From what I observed in my travels throughout the Basque Region (Euskal Herria), the fish movement is beginning to take flight and Alex is the go-to at the helm in France and beyond. His designs are progressive and his attitude is first rate. He is not in the business of pushing volume, rather he desires a balance in his life - one that employs his love of design coupled with his passion for surf. The end result, well you can see for yourself:

7'4'' pocket trimmin' "Albatroz" shape - collaberation with Nereuskinesis (Portugal)

5'10'' Twin Fin shaped for Alex by Alex

His glasser is top notch too -
